Animal Planet

Animal Planet: Mermaids
The Purpose of the site and series

The purpose of this site is to prove whether or not mermaids exist. This site mainly consists of video footages on the mermaids. Watching a couple of videos, I realised that most of these footages are not clear, dark thus making it impossible to conclude any findings. They are not convincing and they make it hard to believe mermaids actually do exist. According to a documentary on mermaids, this belief  started ancient of years ago and it was believed that there was life under water and that people who live under sea existed.

After Reading and knowing more about mermaids, I came to the conclusion that mermaids do not exist. I believe that it is just a myth. The

Digital Security

Cyber Crime

The types of Cyber Crime include:

1.Hacking: This is a type of crime wherein a person’s computer is broken into so that his personal or sensitive information can be accessed. In the United States, hacking is classified as a felony and punishable as such. This is different from ethical hacking, which many organizations use to check their Internet security protection. In hacking, the criminal uses a variety of software to enter a person’s computer and the person may not be aware that his computer is being accessed from a remote location.
2.Theft: This crime occurs when a person violates copyrights and downloads music, movies, games and software. There are even peer sharing websites which encourage software piracy and many of these websites are now being targeted by the FBI. Today, the justice system is addressing this cyber crime and there are laws that prevent people from illegal downloading.
3.Cyber Stalking: This is a kind of online harassment wherein the victim is subjected to a barrage of online messages and emails. Typically, these stalkers know their victims and instead of resorting to offline stalking, they use the Internet to stalk. However, if they notice that cyber stalking is not having the desired effect, they begin offline stalking along with cyber stalking to make the victims’ lives more miserable.
4.Identity Theft: This has become a major problem with people using the Internet for cash transactions and banking services. In this cyber crime, a criminal accesses data about a person’s bank account, credit cards, Social Security, debit card and other sensitive information to siphon money or to buy things online in the victim’s name. It can result in major financial losses for the victim and even spoil the victim’s credit history.
5.Malicious Software: These are Internet-based software or programs that are used to disrupt a network. The software is used to gain access to a system to steal sensitive information or data or causing damage to software present in the system.
6.Child soliciting and Abuse: This is also a type of cyber crime wherein criminals solicit minors via chat rooms for the purpose of child pornography. The FBI has been spending a lot of time monitoring chat rooms frequented by children with the hopes of reducing and preventing child abuse and soliciting.

How to Prevent Cyber Crimes

Use Strong Passwords Use different user ID / password combinations for different accounts and avoid writing them down. Make the passwords more complicated by combining letters, numbers, special characters (minimum 10 characters in total) and change them on a regular basis.
Secure your computer

Activate your firewall
Firewalls are the first line of cyber defence; they block connections to unknown or bogus sites and will keep out some types of viruses and hackers.
  • Use anti-virus/malware software
Prevent viruses from infecting your computer by installing and regularly updating anti-virus software.
  • Block spyware attacks
Prevent spyware from infiltrating your computer by installing and updating anti-spyware software.
Call the right person for help Don’t panic! If you are a victim, if you encounter illegal Internet content (e.g. child exploitation) or if you suspect a computer crime, identity theft or a commercial scam, report this to your local police. If you need help with maintenance or software installation on your computer, consult with your service provider or a certified computer technician.

Secure your Mobile Devices Be aware that your mobile device is vulnerable to viruses and hackers.  Download applications from trusted sources.
Install the latest operating system updates
Keep your applications and operating system (e.g. Windows, Mac, Linux) current with the latest system updates. Turn on automatic updates to prevent potential attacks on older software.
Protect your e-identity Be cautious when giving out personal information such as your name, address, phone number or financial information on the Internet. Make sure that websites are secure (e.g. when making online purchases) or that you’ve enabled privacy settings (e.g. when accessing/using social networking sites).
Avoid being scammed
Always think before you click on a link or file of unknown origin. Don’t feel pressured by any emails. Check the source of the message. When in doubt, verify the source. Never reply to emails that ask you to verify your information or confirm your user ID or password.

Clash of Clans

                    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Clash_Of_Clans_Logo.png

An Overview of the Game

Clash of Clans is a game that is played on Android smartphones online. Players have to build a community attack and fight other players to earn gold. They also have to train and coach troops and Dark Elixir, which can be used to build defences that protect the player from other players' attacks, and to train and upgrade troops. after doing so, they then have to fight and attack other troops.

Logistics: Troops

These troops are separated in what is called Tiers.

  • Tier #1 - Consists of Barbarians, Archers, and Goblins.
Barbarians- Barbarians are elixir troops that are the fastest to create (20 seconds) in the barracks. Barbarians have decent hit points for the amount of elixir that they take to create.
Archers- Archers are elixir troops that are fairly quick (30 seconds) to make in a barracks and are the second troop to become available once a barracks has been upgraded to level two.
Goblins- Goblins are useful for looting bases at lower levels. They have double hit points on resource type buildings including both gold and elixir storage and gold mines and elixir collectors. Goblins are made using elixir and are created in 30 seconds.

Above is an image of the game scenery:
A player is attacking another player's village. The amount of resources available for capture are on the top left. The troops available for deployment are along the bottom of the screen in the image.

Tier #2 - Consists of Giants, Wall Breakers, that carry bombs), Balloons, (Wall Breakers in hot air balloons that drop bombs), and Wizards.

  • Tier #3 - Consists of Dragons, Healers, and P.E.K.K.As (heavily armoured sword-wielding warriors whose exact identity is unconfirmed).

  • Dark Elixir Troops - Consists of Minions, Hog Riders, Valkyries, Golems, Witches, and Lava Hounds (a group of flying fiery hound-like golems that target air defences). These troops are created by using "dark elixir", a special type of elixir that is only available at higher levels, and are also trained in their own "dark barracks".

  • Heroes - Consists of the Barbarian King and the Archer Queen. Heroes are immortal and are only trained once. They are summoned by an altar rather than being trained in the barracks (or dark barracks) like the other troops. They are trained and upgraded exclusively with dark elixir

Collaborative Process with the Clan

Collaborative Fluency:

Establish:

The goal and objective of the game is to Build your village to fend off raiders, battle against millions of players worldwide, and forge a powerful clan with others to destroy enemy troops.

Envision

The ethics, principles of the Clan is to defeat the other troops you are fighting with.

Engineer

Clash of Clans involves the creation of a team/troop that you as the player will lead and create strategies for. These strategies created will help reach the finishing line and goal. The player which is the leader forms strategies in context of the game such as critical before moving onto more advanced attacking know what the other clans weaknesses are. As well as knowing the benefits of raiding, ideal raid, limits, restrictions, and details relating to the fine art of stealing resources. Common army compositions and Risk vs Reward in the game.
Clash of Clans has some great first time flow, as it creates emotional attachment to the game area aka. player's village in a matter of 5 minutes. Game starts with Player entering her village, which is after a couple of dialogs attacked by goblins. Player defends the village with a cannon (learn defense) and launches a counter attack (learn battling). After the counter attack player gets back to the village and goes quickly through the core loop (build resource production, build barracks, train troops) till it's time again to launch a second attack against the goblins. After the second attack the game slows down to normal progress speed and introduces the achievements (which work in the beginning as quests) to the player.

Execute

Execution of the game includes implementation of the strategies the clan needs to get in order to fight. The actual physical fighting and acting upon and against the other clans.

The Progress
Solid retention in Clash of Clans is mainly due to the steady and visible progress players have in the game. Second key factor in the retention is the well extremely well designed core loop, which reward player for being active and promises progress for each return session. Finally it's also about those notifications, as just when you think you won't be coming back to the game any time soon, you're  iPhone and/or iPad informs you that the awesome building you forgot you were even building is ready now.

Clan wars
Clans are groups of players who join together to support each other, either materially (donating troops) or verbally (giving advice). Players can join clans once they rebuild the special Clan Castle building early on. A major component of the game play of Clash of Clans is clans facing off against one another. Clan leaders and co-leaders can begin wars against other clans. Each clan is then given one "preparation day" and one "war day." When a player attacks a member of the opposing clan, they receive stars based upon the amount of destruction they cause to the opponent's community. Each player is limited to two attacks per war, and the team with the most stars at the end of the war day is declared victorious, with players receiving bonus war loot if he/she use their attacks in the war and a one more war win record in the clan description.

Gems
Aside from gold and elixir, the game also uses gems as a currency. Gems are awarded for reaching certain milestones, completing achievements and randomly awarded when clearing certain obstacles in your compound. However, the main way to acquire gems is through in-app purchases using real world money. Gems can be used to speed up every aspect of the game, from construction times to troop training to lab research. They can also be used to purchase more resources and builders.

Examine

Examination of the Clash of the Clans is the reflection on the fighting itself and on how everything goes. As well as the failures the players' clan encounters.

Opinion

All and all I think the game is a good entertaining one and enjoyed by many. The game helps you to establish strategies and ways on how to defeat the opposing clan. It enforces leadership skills on the player and so I think in terms of educational purposes, children would benefit from that aspect.
Children would learn how to lead and direct the clan thus helping them in real life scenarios where say they had to be a team leader in a group discussion or debate etc.
